More about Lacey Sasso as a Choreographer
I began my career as a choreographer during my time at Missouri State University. I created several modern works as well as tap and jazz works for two separate student produced and choreographed dance concerts.
My passion for creating work that is authentic to my movement voice continued when I moved to New York City. I was able to further explore different genres and ways of moving through my work with Undertoe Dance Project. I was a featured choreographer in our NY Season in 2011, 2012, and 2014.
Additionally, I have choreographed for Undertoe Dance Festival, Astoria Dance Festival, and Dance Astoria. In Boston, my work has been featured in Six One Seven Dance Collective’s annual performance series since 2011. I have also been featured in ArtBeat, 3rd Life Choreographer’s Series, and Jose Mateo’s Dance for World Community.
In 2014 I founded and became Artistic Director of Sasso & Company, a Boston-based contemporary dance company. Sasso & Company’s mission is to create work that is informed by psychological theory as well as autobiographical experiences. The company’s work is honest, emotional, exploratory, innovative, and exciting for first time dance viewers as well as long time dance enthusiasts.
During our first full season, Sasso & Company produced and performed Love In Motion – An Evening of Dance. This project was fully funded via our Kickstarter campaign.
The company’s second season culminated in two sold out evening performances of Dancing the Distance in Boston’s Green Street Studios. Sasso & Company premiered new works and celebrated fan favorite repertoire. Sasso & Company proudly hosted 9 local area dance artists which contributed to the brilliant success of the performance series.
